BOWLAND VETS

Our Terms & Conditions

We are proud to be one of only two independent veterinary practices in The Ribble Valley. Bowland Vets was created out of a desire to put pets back at the centre of veterinary care – right where they should be!

  • Fees:

All fees are payable at the time of an appointment or procedure. This enables us to continually invest in the facilities, equipment and staff; to maintain the high clinical standard we aim to set.  All fees including over the counter sales are subject to VAT at the current rate. We will provide itemised and Vat invoices either via email or paper for each transaction.  We are unable to send any laboratory samples for analysis until the account is settled. If outstanding invoices are not paid we reserve the right to recover our fees, which may include engaging a third party debt collection agency. In such cases any costs levied by the debt collection agency will be added to your outstanding balance. Please note this could affect your credit rating.

  • Pet Health Insurance:

We are happy to deal with all insurance companies. There is an administration fee of £18.00 per condition per annum which needs to be paid prior to the first claim being submitted. If you are a member of our Bowland Pet Club then claims are processed without an administration fee. Unless we have specifically arranged a direct claim with your insurers it is your responsibility to settle your account in full. Any insurance claims would then be processed for you to recoup the costs directly from your insurance company.

We will only look at direct claims for amounts over £150.00 and for repeat medications costing more then £50.

  • Payment Methods

You may settle your account by either cash, VISA/ Debit card. In some circumstances for surgical procedures, we may require a 50% deposit for some procedures.

  • Treatment cost estimates

A written estimate will be provided for possible costs of treatment. Please note this is an approximate estimate as at times we may need to change treatment plans according to how your animal responds to treatment. Any changes to costs will be discussed where possible. Any estimate provided will be valid for 30days only.

  • Ownership of records

Any clinical notes, images, laboratory records and documents will remain the property of Bowland Vets. With your permission these can be passed to another Practice/ Referral practice. If you require a copy of these at any time we are happy to provide you with them.

  • Out of hours policy

Our emergency provision is provided by Armac Vets in Bury, which is located 37 minutes’ drive from our practice at 147 The Rock, Bury, BL9 0ND. Their contact telephone number is 0161 764 4618.

  • Prescription policy

We will provide prescriptions for Prescription Only Medications (POM-Vs) from your Veterinary Surgeon to obtain the medication from another Veterinary Surgeon or Pharmacy. A prescription may not be appropriate in some circumstances e.g., if your pet is hospitalised.  There will be a £20 charge for prescriptions per item and a £12 charge for additional items on a prescription. It is the Veterinary Surgeons discretion how many repeats they provide on these prescriptions.

The standard re-examination required is every three months for POM-Vs; this interval may be extended or decreased at the Veterinary Surgeons discretion. There is a £42 charge for the re-examination appointments.

Please note we can not accept the return of prescription drugs as such items cannot be re-sold.

  • In-patient care

The practice offers inpatient care in separate cat, dog and exotic wards. We also provide an isolation area within the practice. The inpatients have a dedicated registered Veterinary Nurse and Veterinary Surgeon assigned to them during their stay. Regular assessments are made during their stay with us and treatment is given accordingly.

Out of hours patients requiring ongoing care will be transferred by the owner or the practice to our out of hours provider (see above).

  • Referrals and second opinions

Bowland Vets Ltd acknowledges the clients right to request referral or a second opinion for their animal. We have a list of referral centres that we prefer to refer to as we are happy with their standard of diagnostics and care offered.  When deciding where to refer to, the Veterinary Surgeon will take into account the animal’s ability to travel, urgency of referral, owner circumstances and financial limitations.

  • Client contact

We endeavour to contact clients either by email, text, phone or post. We will ask your preferences for contact. If you opt for no contact, then we will be unable to send you reminders for things such as vaccinations. If at any point you wish to modify your means of contact, please let a staff member know. Please note that all reminders are a complimentary service, and the owner remains responsible for making appointments for routine health care at the appropriate timings.
